I take a mixture of vitamin and mineral supplements each and every day. There are reasons for all of them which I will try to go into as I introduce them. I am listing these because I need a list for when I go in for my physical on Friday.
(1) First up is the Kirkland Signature Mature Multi Vitamin & Mineral supplement (I take one per day). Each Tablet Contains - % Daily Value:

B2) 1.7 mg - 100%, Niacin 20 mg - 100%, Vitamin B6 3 mg - 150%, Folate (Folic Acid) 500 mcg - 125%, Vitamin B12 30 mcg 500%, Biotin 30 mcg - 10%, Pantothenic Acid 10 mg - 100%, Calcium 220 mg - 22%, Phosphorus 110 mg - 11%, Iodine 150 mcg - 100%, Magnesium 100 mg - 25%, Zinc 15 mg - 100%, Selenium 55 mcg - 79%, Copper 1 mg - 50%, Manganese 3.5 mg - 175%, Chromium 45 mcg - 38%, Molybdenum 160 mcg - 213%, Chloride 72 mg - 2%, Potassium 80 mg - 2%, Boron 300 mcg - **, Nickel 5 mcg - **, Silicon 2 mg - **, Vanadium 10 mcg - **, Lutein 275 mcg - **, Lycopene 300 mcg - **.
Purpose: This is a multi-vitamin that is formulated for the over 50 crowd, of which I am one. I am trying to ensure that I have all the vitamins and minerals that I need in case the Diet To Go food is somehow missing some. Just a safety valve.
(2) Second is Nature Made Organic Flaxseed Oil 1000 mg tablets (I take 2 per day). Flaxseed oil is a source of the essential fats, omega-3 and omega-6. Flaxseed oil is one of the best sources of the essential fatty acid, alpha-linoleic or omega-3. Essential fats are incorporated into and contribute to the integrity and fluidity of cell membranes. The cells life and function depends largely on its membrane integrity. Maintaining the integrity of cell membranes can lead to better health and well-being. I take flaxseed oil instead of fish oil because of the fishy breath that I don't want to have. Amount Per Softgel - % Daily Value: Calories 10, Calories from Fat 10, Total Fat 1 g - 2%, Polyunsaturated Fat 0.5 g, Vitamin E 1 I.U. - 3%, Organic Flaxseed Oil 1,000 mg - **, Alpha Linolenic Acid (Omega-3) 500 mg - **, Linoleic Acid (Omega-6) 110 mg - **, Oleic Acid (Omega-9) 120 mg - **.
Purpose: Omega-3 is an essential fat good for heart health. Omega-6 is an essential fat which apparently can be used in the treatment of diabetes. However, Omega-6 comes in a lot more forms from things that we normally eat so there may be an overload here. Omega-3 has to be taken in by the diet.
(3) Third is Spring Valley Magnesium with Chelated Zinc (I take 2 tablets per day). Magnesium and Zinc are essential minerals that play important roles in most metabolic pathways. Magnesium and Zinc are vital for maintenance of healthy bone mass by activating crucial enzymes. Amount per 3 tablets - % Daily Value: Magnesium 400 mg (magnesium oxide) - 100%, Zinc 15 mg (zinc gluconate) - 100%. Therefore, I am getting 2/3 rds of my allowance by what I take.
Purpose: I cannot take either Potassium supplements because of the effect on the blood pressure medicine that I take. However, I do need something for electrolytes since I lift weights and also because I have recurrent muscle cramps. The Magnesium helps witht he muscle cramps and helps with the energy level during weight lifting. Zinc strengthens the immune system. It is also essential to cell division, growth, and repair (per bodybuilding.com website).
(4) Fourth is Bayer Low Dose (81 mg) "Baby" Asprin (I take 2 tablets per day - 162 mg). The low dose asprin was something prescribed by my doctor for heart health. I take two tablets rather than one on the advice of the book "You On A Diet" which indicated that 2 would help in the overall diet process.
Purpose: Make my doctor happy and at the same time maybe keep myself from having a heart attack.
(5) Fifth is Spring Valley L-Arginine 500 mg tablets (I take 2 per day). L-Arginine promotes stimulation of nitric oxide, which helps support flow, promoting vascular function and muscular circulation. Each 2 tablets contain L-Arginine 1000 mg.
Purpose: L-Arginine as a chemical messenger plays a vital role in vasodilatation, relaxation of smooth muscle cells within arterial blood vessels. Dietary L-Arginine provides the nitrogen our bodies use to produce NO. [info per bodybuilding.com website] I am also interested in its effects of promoting blood flow. Another of the benefits of L-arginine is how it also is believed to help in impotence and fertility problems in men.
(6) Sixth is Nature Made Super B-Complex Supplement with Vitamin C (I take 1 per day). Promotes energy and metabolism. Recommended as part of daily regimen for women's health, stress, mood, and energy. Vitamin B-6 builds body proteins; riboflavin and niacin regulate antioxidant activity. Specially formulated to replenish the nutrients lost during high stress times. Serving Size: 1 Tablet. Amount Per Serving: Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) 150mg, Vitamin B-1 (Thiamin Mononitrate) 100mg, Vitamin B-2 (Riboflavin) 20mg, Vitamin B-3 (Niacinamide) 25mg, Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) 2mg, Vitamin B-12 (Cyanocobalamin) 15mcg, Biotin 3.8mcg, Pantothenic Acid (Dicalcium Pantothenate) 5mg, Liver Powder 100mg, Brewer's Yeast 100mg, Folic Acid 400mcg.
Purpose: The B vitamins support the body's metabolism of the major nutrients- carbohydrate, fat and protein. I wanted to be sure that I had sufficient amount while I am on a diet.
Basically, each and every one of these pills is to make sure that I have enough vitamins and minerals that any untoward loss in the DTG meals can be supplemented. I have all the faith in the world in the development of the Diet To Go menu by the dieticians but I just want to be sure of my health. 1600 calories a day is kind of light for a guy my size.
